The Adventures of Harley Hall

I was born and raised on the lower east side of Manhattan during the late 70's and 80's.  "Alphabet City" was, to say the least, a very interesting place to grow up!  My earliest memories were of abandoned buildings, music, art, shanty towns, car fires, lots of hanging shoes, and graffiti.  I lived in a tenement building on East 11th Street between Avenues A and B with my dad.  Our neighbors consisted of artists, musicians, and many other unique individuals. These people were my family, and had a huge influence on me.  Being in that environment definitely planted the creative seed and molded me into the person I am today.

On my 15th birthday, my dad gave me a subscription to SKI Magazine, and all I could think about for the next two years of high school was moving out west and being a ski bum.  At 17, I answered an ad in the employment section, bought a plane ticket, and headed to Alta, Utah.  After two years of skiing the 'Phat Pow' every day, I took my adventurous spirit to the next level and moved to Alaska to work as a commercial fisherman.  After a year and a half living on a boat in the Bering Sea, I moved back to NYC.

I worked as a bartender at the hottest club in New York City, groomed dogs for a dog hotel, and even received my real estate license. Three years went by living in NYC, and randomly, I was discovered by a talent agent on the street.  My life changed with a blink of an eye, and two months later I was working as an international fashion model in Tokyo, Japan.

I traveled for six years all over the world, shooting for top brands like Fendi, Levi's, Moschino, Lee, Mossimo, and many more.  I was lucky enough to spend time and work in London, Milan, Paris, Germany, China, Japan, Brazil, and Chile.  During my travels, I learned Portuguese and Spanish, saw the Great Wall of China, and drove across South America!  Modeling was not my passion, but I used it to travel, and found my true passion through it... photography!

I always had a creative side and finally had an outlet that made sense to me!  I read tons of books, watched every YouTube tutorial on photography, and slowly but surely figured out how to use my Canon 20D.  I suggest that any beginning photographer buy one used, because this is a fantastic camera!  As soon as I started shooting, I was hooked!

I've worked my way up over the last seven years from being an assistant, to second shooter, and now owning my own successful business, Harley Hall Photography.  It's been a long road, but I wouldn't trade it for the world.  I love what I do, and I strive to do my best at every shoot.  I am constantly growing and honing my craft to give every client the absolute best product.  If you're looking for a truly passionate photographer, then you've come to the right place!

Cheers,

Harley Hall
